Hi! I’m Ann-Marie, from Sydney (Australia). I’m a travel sociologist; I love the social cultural of travelling and how we experience everything that goes with it. I love exploring gardens that inspire authors, laneways that inspire artists, chocolatiers that inspire musicians, and grand outback vistas that inspire video games. Australia is a big place, but there is a lot to discover amongst the space in between.
✔️ 18+ years in Sydney
✔️ Written for NZ Herald Travel, Ensemble Travel, and Postcards Magazine
✔️ Specialises in seeking out the best colorful gardens, artisanal chocolates and local hikes.
📍 Sydney and can advise on other places in Australia, including Queensland, Cairns, Melbourne and more.

As an Army brat, and moved around a lot as a kid. No matter where we were, every summer holiday was spent in North Queensland with my grandparents. We’re talking long, hot, and humid summers where you can’t sleep at night. I learnt to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, boating amongst the Whitsunday Islands, eating fresh fish cooked on the barbecue at the beach. It sound idyllic, but summer is actually the worst time to visit Queensland. It’s too hot and volatile, with cyclones and floods. The jellyfish tend to close the beach, and the mosquitoes will catch you on the sand. But I loved spending time with family and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

Pack light, travel hard, and get lost. Only pack what you can carry. Seriously ask yourself “why not?” for every opportunity you are offered. And spend at least one day wandering a few blocks wherever you land. Of course, tell someone (safety first) but don’t be afraid of taking a random turn. That’s how I found the best street food EVER in Bangkok… and cannot for the life of me tell you where it was.

The story.
Sometimes it is a story I have heard from someone else and I need to check it out myself. Sometimes it’s the story I picture unfolding in my head. I always wanted to travel to Greece to see the myths and legends. I dreamed of travelling to Malta to see my grandmother’s stories (it was perfect). I continue to explore Sydney every chance I have, because there are millions of people here with their own stories to share. Food, culture, landscapes. It’s all part of the story.
